Gianpiero Cardone

Dr. Gianpiero Cardone is the Head of the Diagnostic Radiology Unit at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele Turro in Milan. He also collaborates with Casa di Cura La Madonnina.

He graduated cum laude in Medicine and Surgery from the University of L’Aquila in 1989 with a thesis on prostate MRI, and earned a specialization in Radiology from the same university in 1993, again with top marks and honors.

To further develop his expertise in urogenital imaging, he attended the Department of Imaging at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York in 2012.

His radiological practice focuses particularly on urologic diseases. He is the author of a monograph on abdominal MRI, 26 book chapters (Italian and international), 6 translated chapters, and 109 scientific articles (Google Scholar), published in leading international radiology and urology journals including Radiology, American Journal of Roentgenology, European Radiology, Abdominal Imaging, Urology, Journal of Urology, European Oncology, and European Urology Oncology. He has delivered 455 presentations at national and international courses and conferences. His H-index is 13, with 646 citations (Scopus).

He is a member of the Italian Society of Medical Radiology (SIRM), where he served as President of the Urogenital Radiology Section from 2017 to 2020, and Past President from 2022 to 2025. He is also a member of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), the European Society of Radiology (ESR), and the European Society of Urogenital Radiology (ESUR). He is a reviewer of clinical guidelines for SIRM, AIRO, and AIOM.
